Ferns
Have you ever considered adding ferns
to your home garden? If not, it's a great idea! A fern has the
ability to pull together disparate plants and flowers, adding
cohesion and blending the design elements. Gardening is as much
about art as it is horticulture or any other science, after all.
Ferns are just one more weapon in your arsenal to create a
beautiful, memorable garden.
Most
varieties of ferns require rich soil and a good amount of
moisture. If you will be planting the fern rhizomes to propagate
the coverage, be careful to pick a fern variety that will not
overrun your other garden plants and flowers.
'American
Maidenhair' ferns are a good all-around choice, as they do well
even in sunny areas (given enough moisture). If you live where it
rains a lot, the 'Cinnamon Fern' is a great choice. Its new fronds
display a distinctive, rusty brown color that looks beautiful
mixed in with other ferns, garden ground covers, and flowers.
